Mr. Arnel Gonzales, Business Unit Head, Mall of Asia Arena in an interview at Balitaan sa Aloha Media Forum on October 24, 2012, revealed that the tickets for the concert of the Sting at SM MOA Arena on December 9 were about to be sold out.  However,   Sting decided to transfer the venue of its concert and this was confirmed by SM Management.

It appears that Sting heed to the call of Cheryl L. Daytec-Yangot, a counsel of Project Save 182 Movement, a pro environment group opposing the uprooting and transferring of trees at SM Baguio City.  Daytec-Yangot   posted on Facebook: “I wrote a letter to Sting’s agents appealing that they abandon SM-Mall of Asia Arena as the venue for the musician’s December concert.  Sting, a voice of the oppressed, cannot sing in the halls of the oppressor!

When inquired about the pending case involving the group of Daytec-Yangot and SM Baguio, Atty. Chryse Bautista, SM Baguio City Spokesperson said:  “tapos na, we presented our evidence and they already presented their evidence” . . .  “pero from our perspective ano ginawa ng mga plaintiffs?   Since they were not able to present any credible evidence in court, now they go back to the media, now they go back to the cyber space and attack SM”, she further added.

SM Holdings in its press release stated, “this is no longer a court battle between environment activists and corporate entity.  We are also talking about the possible detrimental effects it will have on the Philippines’ image in the global entertainment industry”.

Let us hear it direct from the party . . .

  1. SM Baguio Spokesperson is earning her pay so well. She is a lawyer herself and as she speaks the case is in court right now. This balitaan is supposed to be about STING WITHDRAWING FROM THE SMOA venue.

Hilong-hilo na siya, kawawa naman siya.

  2. Balitaan sa Aloha is just a media forum where parties are given the opportunity to express their views. You too can express your view in the open. Why should you be afraid to come into open if you believe its the truth?

  3. unless you are from baguio and witnessed the events as they unfold there is a good chance that you would believe SM's PR action. DENR-CAR admitted that the earthballing was done improperly and if this is a forum, where is PS182's side? Press Release or Paid Release?

  4. Mac, with due respect, hindi naman siguro lahat ng tao nababayaran. If you attended the forum, there were also those from the media who raised questions about land ownership and other issues, such as traffic, caused by SM and how other cinema operators were affected by SM. You Tube and social media sites are free. The issue was brought up precisely because the case was already pending before the court. The better solution for all of us is to follow-up the case for the Court resolve the issue with dispatch. It’s also good that there is a vigilant organization such as PS 182. Ultimately, it is the Court that should resolve the matter, so we can move on.

  5. Hi,For Companies the process is more complicated. When a company is seeking to close its operations it needs to appoint a liquidator. That person is usually an accountant for Incorporation in Qatar or some such professional and his job will be to collect all debts, sell assets, pay creditors and distribute surplus funds to shareholders. Thanks.....
